It has been a day of revivals with the seemingly dead “Sin City 2” and “Arthur and Lancelot” both getting a chance at coming back to life. Now the same is happening for the film adaptation of “Lost” scribe Brian K. Vaughan’s acclaimed comic mini-series “Y: The Last Man”.
Heat Vision reports that two new screenwriters, Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia, are negotiating to come onboard the long-gestating sci-fi adaptation at New Line.
Development on the film has been on and off since 2004 with the likes of Shia LaBeouf and Alicia Keys linked to star while filmmakers D.J. Caruso and Louis Leterrier were attached to direct at different points.
The story follows young amateur escape artist Yorick Brown and his pet monkey Ampersand, the last two men on Earth. Something simultaneously kills every mammal on Earth possessing a Y chromosome – including embryos, fertilized eggs, and even sperm.
Society is plunged into chaos as infrastructures collapse and the surviving women everywhere try to cope with the loss of the men. Yorick goes on a mission to find his girlfriend Beth, who was on vacation in Australia.
Federman and Scaia, who have worked on TV series like “Jericho,” “Warehouse 13” and “Human Target”, are starting from scratch and will ignore previous drafts by Carl Ellsworth.
