SURREY, B.C. – Thirteen young drivers are facing charges after a group of exotic cars took over a highway south of Vancouver for a rush hour road road race Wednesday.
The vehicles included Ferraris, Maserati’s, Lamborghinis, Audis, Mercedes and Aston Martins travelling in a group and being driven by men aged 20 and under with learners licences.
RCMP Corp. Holly Marks says the vehicles were driving erratically at speeds of up to 200 kilometres an hour southbound on Highway 99.
She says at one point two vehicles hung back holding up the rest of the traffic so the vehicles ahead of them could take off in a race.
Police eventually stopped all of the vehicles after they got off the freeway and the fancy cars were towed away.
In addition to driving-related fines, the young men will be responsible for the towing and impounding costs. (News1130)
