A convicted criminal is still collecting an RCMP paycheque weeks after a guilty verdict.

No decision has been made yet to terminate a Mountie found guilty of obstruction of justice or even stop his RCMP paycheques

Corporal Monty Robinson was found guilty after a 2008 crash which killed 21 year old Orion Hutchinson in Delta

RCMP Chief Superintendant Janice Armstrong says while the Mounties would like to take action there are still internal processes to work through.

She said “Monty Robinson is currently suspended with pay ultimately the commanding officer of the division is seeking his dismissal. I don’t have any information in terms of that portion of the duty status. At this point right now it is he is suspended with pay if that is going to go without pay I don’t have a date when that might occur.”

She admits even the Mountie are experiencing some frustration as Robinson, a convicted criminal, still collects an RCMP paycheque weeks after the guilty verdict. .

Armstrong says “Certainly the frustrations occur on a number of levels. Certainly I can try to understand how the family might feel about this and the public in general. From an internal perspective, not specifically on this case, but when members have done things that are wrong then certainly itis a bit discouraging when they are being paid during that process.”

Robinson went home after the crash and had two shots of Vodka which the judge ruled was an attempt to fool a breathalyzer.

A sentencing hearing will be held June first.
