A dramatic scene in Burnaby last night

A 30-floor high-rise condo building in the 4200-block Grange Street was evacuated for a few hours.

RCMP Inspector Tim Shields says it all started when police executed a search warrant for drugs and discovered not only drugs but cash, guns, and about 10 sticks of dynamite in a suite on the eleventh floor.

The dynamite was rendered safe and burned in Central Park by the Explosives Disposal Unit.

The team came back to the suite, and found some improvised explosive devices, “The IED’s were essentially small, homemade bombs and I don’t know exactly how many there were or how dangerous, theoretically they were. They were fairly small in size, but there were numerous IED’s, they had to be removed by the Explosives Disposal Unit.”

Shields says forensic identification specialists will be brought in to examine anything that may lead to whomever is responsible.
