A more open and accountable Translink?

The chair of the Translink board of directors says she’ll consider opening up board meetings and decisions to the public.

right now transit users are only allowed to make presentations to the un-elected board.

they’re not allowed to witness votes or debates on Translink policy.

Nancy Olewiler says that may change.

“Yes, the board has considered opening up more of the type of meetings — we’ll have both an open and a closed session.”

Richmond Mayor Malcom Brodie says it would be a step in the right direction.

He adds the board is unaccountable in its current form.

“We don’t know really anything about the Translink board other than — possibly — a final decision.  I think that is unacceptable when they are spending taxpayer money.”

Translink meetings used to be open to the public, but that ended when the board was re-structured in 2008.
