A new approach to easing traffic in Vancouver

A Vancouver City Councillor wants to help ease traffic along Broadway.

George Affleck plans to table a motion that asks the Province to make way for a sort of megabus on the road, and then lobby Translink to get those buses rolling.

He says the bi-articulated bus, which is divided into three comparments, can add 30 to 50 percent more riders, “The point of the motion really is to set in place a plan for the opening of the Evergreen Line in 2016. We have to be prepared for the amount of people that are going to be flowing into the city through Commercial Drive.”

Affleck acknowledges Translink’s financial woes what with recently being denied a request to increase fares and being urged to save money.

He says the motion is just to get officials thinking because a rapid-transit plan for Broadway would take at least another 8 years to implement.
