A senior is Vancouver’s 5th homicide

A 72-year-old woman is Vancouver’s latest murder victim.

The body of Ethel Fenotti was found by police early Thursday morning after receiving a call from the woman’s son.

That son – 50-year-old Richard Glenn Shields – has since been charged with second-degree murder.

The mother and son lived together for the past seven years at an apartment near East 12th Avenue and Main Street.

Constable Jana McGuinness says signs of trauma were found on the Fenotti’s body but she can’t say if the woman was the victim of elder abuse.

“Don’t know anything to do with her past medical history. Again, we have charged her son in this case some of the facts are now before the courts so we’ll be careful on any other information that we share.”

Police have never been called to the apartment before.
