A US Navy jet has crashed near Spokane

Three people on board a U.S. Navy jet are believed to be dead after a crash today West of Spokane in Washington state.

Navy officials in the States say the jet was based at the Whidbey Island Naval Station just across the border.

Emergency crews are at the crash scene about 90 kilometres West of Spokane.

The  EA-6B Prowler, specializing in electronic warfare, went down around nine this morning.

It was believed to be on a training mission.
