Alberta man dead after B.C. highway crash

VANCOUVER – A 47-year-old commercial truck driver from Alberta is dead following a single-vehicle crash in British Columbia’s Fraser Canyon.

RCMP Sgt. Peter Thiessen says the accident took place yesterday afternoon on Highway 1, about five kilometres south of the community of Boston Bar.

He says the southbound driver lost control of his tractor-trailer while rounding a curve, crossed over the northbound lane, collided with a power pole and ended up in a deep ditch.

Thiessen says the driver from Myrnam, Alta., was the only occupant in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He says slush and snow covered the road, and the visibility was poor.

The accident shut down the highway for seven hours.
