An eight year battle by the Freedom of Information and Privacy Association to have the Government release their contract with IBM is over.
Executive Director Vincent Gogolek says it is a welcome breath of sanity that the Provincial Government won’t take the battle to the Court of Appeal
Gogolek says for eight years it has been one procedural argument after another from the BC Government, “The security of the system, that terrible hackers in Moldavia or Uzbekistan would somehow attack our personal information, and they have finally abandoned that. It seems like Minister McDiarmid took a step back and a deep breath and looked at this and said, ‘You know what? This ends now.’ And that’s the right decision.”
The Province will finally release the contract online.
