Anooraq reports death at South African mine

VANCOUVER – Anooraq Resources Corp. (TSXV:ARQ) has reported the death of an employee at its Bokoni platinum mine in South Africa, the second death at the mine in three months.

The Vancouver-based miner said the death occurred Tuesday in a ground-fall accident.

“The South African Department of Mineral Resources has issued a Section 54 safety stoppage notice in respect of the Bokoni operations and further updates will be provided to the market in due course,” the company said in a release.

A part of the Bokoni mine was closed for 10 days after another worker was crushed by a dump truck in a tunnel on Nov. 18.

The company said seven operating shifts were lost at the Middelpunt Hill UG2 shaft during the safety stoppage, cutting production of platinum group metals by 1,500 ounces.
