Another delay in sentencing for Michael Berry

A former Capilano College instructor and acting coach who sexually abused five girls decades ago was wheeled into BC Supreme Court today, for what should have been his sentencing… But 73-year-old Michael Berry has — once again — delayed court proceedings.

It comes after Berry was diagnosed just days ago with Esophageal Cancer. Reluctantly, the judge has given Berry’s lawyer time to gather information about medical treatment. It’s the latest delay after years of court proceedings, thanks to Berry changing lawyers at least 7 times, missed taxis, illness — and in one instance, diarrhea. Despite the adjournment, the judge expressed his frustration — saying he’s unimpressed, and lays most of the blame at the feet of Mr. Berry. He added, in the absence of Berry’s medical condition, he would be going to prison.. The Crown wants berry to spend 8 to 9 years behind bars and receive Cancer treatment in prison. The defense wants 2-years house arrest.
