Another officer injured in traffic

A Surrey RCMP officer with less than five years experience has suffered serious injuries and had to be airlifted to hospital after a crash involving his unmarked cruiser and a jeep.

It happened over the dinner-hour Wednesday at 156 Street and 64th Avenue.

Sergeant Drew Grainger says the officer had his lights and sirens on, responding to a report of a vehicle theft in Newton, when the accident happened, “Obviously these vehicles came to a very unfortunate meeting and obviously, in very close proximity. We have very skilled collision investigative members who are looking at this right now.”

The 22-year-old driver of the Jeep suffered less serious injuries.
