Anti-bullying bylaw delayed

Port Coquitlam has put a halt to an anti-bullying bylaw, at least until the new year.

Mayor Greg Moore says Council will be doing more research before moving forward after concern from the RCMP.

Moore says while police are worried the bylaw would duplicate parts of the Criminal Code of Canada, it is still necessary, “The parameters to actually have a harassment or intimidation offense are quite high.”

Moore says they will instead focus on developing a course for bullies. And if the city passes the bylaw, those issued a ticket will have the choice to take the course, or pay a fine.
