Vancouver City Councillors have approved the final two buildings in the Aquilini Group’s development proposal near Rogers Arena.
The company can now go ahead to build two towers as high as 32 storeys on the Griffiths Way site with both commercial and rental space.
Councillor Geoff Meggs says this is the second largest rental project in Vancouver’s history, “It’s a huge addition to a rental supply in a very important part of the city. The increases, 600 units, with a lot of family units in it. And I think, both of those are very positive for the long-term.”
He adds Council has asked the developer to work on controlling the noise coming in from the nearby arena.
Opponents meanwhile, including the Vancouver Renters’ Union, criticize Councillors for not capping rent or lowering the threshold for affordable units.
