Ridge Meadows RCMP have arrested a man they suspect in the kidnapping of a 17 year old girl this past weekend.
Inspector Wendell Davis made the announcement, “Ridge Meadows RCMP would like to inform you that we have arrested a male in conjunction with the abduction from January 19th. It is clear that the information from the public, as a result of the media attention, was a major factor in this arrest.”
The abduction happened Saturday night about 8pm outside Westgate Shopping Centre.
The suspect asked for help starting his car and then pulled gun on the girl forcing her to drive to secluded area where he beat her.
She fought back and got away while, at the same time, ripping off his necklace.
Since then, other women have come forward to offer descriptions of the man.
Further information is expected early in the morning.
