Auditor General: the books are a mess

It’s a damning report.

After a three year audit BC’s Auditor General has found the Legislature’s financial records are an absolute mess.

John Doyle says his audit has found the Legislature is falling short of meeting even basic financial practices.

His report finds almost no financial accountability, and such a lack of proper paperwork he is not even sure the ledger amounts he is working with are accurate.

The report says MLA’s lacked docuemntation for travel expenses, millions in different payments were misclassified.

In one instance he says the audit found a zero balance in two government bank accounts.

But legislative paperwork showed one account had a balance of over five million, the other a 133 million overdraft.

Doyle concludes the legislative assembly must act to address the “numerous and pervasive” financial deficiencies.
