Avalanche risk rises

Another reason to stay in bounds at North Shore ski hills.

The avalanche danger rating for the backcountry has gone up.

Local mountains have seen about 50 centimetres of new snow over the past few days, raising the slide risk to “considerable” above treeline, meaning there are dangerous avalanche conditions.

The Canadian Avalanche Centre says the rating for the Sea-to-Sky region remains at “moderate.”
