B.C. ferry damaged after hard landing

VANCOUVER – A BC Ferry is out of commission after a hard landing at the Departure Bay terminal in Nanaimo, B.C.

BC Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall says there was damage to both the Queen of Coquitlam and a wing wall that guides the ferry into the dock.

No one has reported being injured aboard the ferry because of the jolt.

Marshall says the 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. sailings have been cancelled and the Queen of Oak Bay continues to sail on the Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo route.

She doesn’t know what caused the hard landing.

A team assessing the damage now to decide if the ship should be placed back into service or if it will need to go in for repairs.
