BC Coroners’ Service investigating hang gliding death

The BC Coroners’ Service has taken over the investigation into yesterday’s hang gliding accident near Agassiz.

A 27-year old Mexican woman died after falling hundreds of metres just moments after take-off.

No one seems able to explain what went so horribly wrong.

Coroner Barb McLintock has plenty of questions.

“What systems were in place for this kind of commercial type tandem hang gliding operation that should’ve prevented anything from going wrong, and how did those systems go wrong, if they did.  And then, obviously, this is a case where we’re going to be thinking at least about whether there are any recommendations that we could make.”

McLintock adds the victim’s name has not been released as family members are still being notified.

The hang gliding trip had been an anniversary gift from the woman’s boyfriend.
