BC Liberal candidates acclaimed in Chilliwack

The BC Liberals have made their candidates official in the two Chilliwack ridings.

Laurie Throness in Chilliwack-Hope and John Martin in Chilliwack were acclaimed as candidates Wednesday evening.

When asked if he was expecting a battle in the looming BC election, even in the safe Liberal seat of Chilliwack, John Martin said.

“Absolutely, and I would disagree with you I don’t think there is a safe seat in the province for anyone these days the battle lines are constantly being redrawn the demographics are shifting all of the time. It is going to be tough I don’t know who the other candidates are going to be but they are obviously going to come in to win there is no doubt about that.”

Martin was asked if he is worried about a split of the vote on the right side of the political spectrum.

“That is something that is out of my hands I really have no ability to influence what other candidates may or may not be in the race I am right now working as hard as I can reaching out speaking to people that probably could be comfortable in the BC Liberal tent but aren’t there yet.”

Martin recently defected to the Liberals after finishing third in the Chilliwack-Hope by-election as a BC Conservative.

Laurie Throness finished second in the same riding in the by-election to now NDP MLA Gwen O’Mahony.
