BCCLA calls for Crown transparency

Questions are being asked after the Crown decided to not proceed with an assault charge recommended against a Terrace police officer.

Hours following his arrest in April, Robert Wright’s wife says he was permanently injured and she wants to know what happened.

But, since the Crown is not laying charges recommended by the special investigator in his case, she will learn nothing more.

David Eby with the BC Civil Liberties Association says this is unacceptable.  “When the charges recommended involve a police officer – and that public duty that comes with policing – the crown must.”

Eby says in previous cases, like that of Paul Boyd and Frank Paul, the crown issued statements explaining why they did not proceed with charges.
