The president of the BC Government and Service Employees’ Union is not ruling out the possibility of escalated job action if a deal isn’t reached soon with the province.
Darryl Walker feels the two sides aren’t that far apart in reaching a new contract.
He says more meetings are set for next week to map out the next move but he says the government may be about to call the union back to the bargaining table.
“If we can get back to the table we will be there as soon as possible but if not escalated action may be possible.”
27-thousand union members walked off the job today.
The union’s demanding a 3.5-per cent wage increase in the first year and a cost of living boost in year two.
Premier Christy Clark says the offer of three and a half will not be increased.
She is flat out refusing to go back to taxpayers and ask for more money.
