BCGEU “disappointed” by latest short list for LDB sale

The BC Government Employees Union says the latest short list of companies to buy liquor distribution services is telling.

President Darryl Walker says the province missed an opportunity to put the brakes on the sale.

“I had kind of an inkling that perhaps that might take place at this point this is a point where they could have said none of the offers, the proposals, the proponents, meet the test so we are going to slow it down so I woul dhave to say that after today perhaps not perhaps they have what they think they need and are going to simply move forward.”

When asked if the union has talked to or has an accomodation with any of the bidding companies Walker said..

“What we would need to do is once this goes to a final step is have an opportunity and sit down and start to talk with them kind of find out more about them and who they are we have the agreement with the provincial government to go forward that they will stay within the union, the collective agreement, the pension, the wages, and all of those things.”

Walker says taxpayers could lose out if the sale goes ahead in both costs and loss of provincial revenue.
