BCGEU says petition against privatization of liquor distribution services getting lots of signatures

The BC Government and Service Employees Union petition against the Province’s attempt to privatize liquor distribution services is drawing lots of signatures.

“We have got close to 20,000 names on this petition so far.”

BCGEU Spokesperson Evan Stewart says they are gathering even more signatures…

“When you tell people that the government plans to privatize liquor distribution, that there was no consultation, that there is no business case been presented, that it is very likely going to lead to higher prices, and that we are going to lose provincial revenue that pays for public services, people are more than happy to sign the petition.”

Stewart says the process to sell off liquor distribution will go into next year and the government can still put the brakes on the idea.

The BC Government recently announced a short list of six companies and will trim that list down to three by July 20th.
