BC’s Environment Minister isn’t rushing the review of the Carbon tax.

BC’s Environment Minister says any decision on tweaks to the provinces carbon tax won’t be made anytime soon as it undergoes a review.

Terry Lake says while there might be changes the government doesn’t want to rush the review of the policy..

He said “The review of the Carbon Tax will take some time again this is a policy that is held up around the world. We don’t want to dilute the policy we want to make sure that it is a policy that is relevant in all parts of the province and has an affect across the industries that we want to see. We don’t want to make industries uncompetitive.”

Lake adds it is a balancing act.

He said “But at the same time we don’t want to dilute the power of the carbon tax which is to reduce fuel consumption to reduce carbon emissions.”

Lake says the province also wants to hear from British Columbians, and their thoughts on the carbon tax.

He said “We want to know that what we are doing is in line with their thoughts 70% of people across the province support the carbon tax when it comes down to paying it individually I think we all have more difficulty with that.”

Lake reiterates the carbon tax, which went up again on April 1st, is now frozen while the review is conducted.

The province recently gave a one year carbon tax reprieve to the agriculture sector, targeting those in the greenhouse industry.
