BCTF and BCPSEA bargaining process under construction

The BC Teachers Federation and the BC Public School Employers Association say they are working on a new deal to change the bargaining process.

Neither group would go on the record with details other than to confirm each will take the framework to their members next weekend for a vote.

Meanwhile BCTF President Susan Lambert says she is still waiting for her phone to ring on talks over a ten year deal.

“I heaven’t heard a word from government on that issue.”

Premier Christy Clark said in October she wanted a decade of labour peace but Lambert says a deal that long is not likely.

“In order to create such an agreement there would have to be a lot of resources put on the table to mitigate the unknowns in the future.”

The BCTF and the province reached a two year deal last summer but one year was retroactive meaning the deal runs out at the end of this school year.
