Beer belly bandit busted

The beer belly bandit is off the streets and facing charges.

The rotund robbery suspect gained the nickname after allegedly robbing up to eight grocery stores on the Lower Mainland.

Vancouver Police constable Brian montague says the suspect was arrested december 15th while trying to cross the border into the United States.

“Our investigators have charged him with one count of robbery at this point as well as some weapons-related offences.”

68-year old Thomas John Schwartz remains in custody pending an extradition hearing in March.

He’s also wanted on a warrant from 1972 for allegedly deserting the U.S. Air Force.
