Board of Trade says final transition rules for the return of the PST are still MIA

The return to the PST is just months away and the Surrey Board of Trade says businesses are still waiting for final transition rules from the province.

CEO Anita Huberman says the rules need to come now, not later.

“We have been waiting. We are having a PST educational transitional plan to educate our business community but these rules need to come now. Like even for us as not for profits you know for the Surrey Board of Trade we are actually going to be not saving money but losing money with the PST coming back.”

Huberman says they are doing what they can to ease the transition by meeting with businesses.

She says the PST will further cost those businesses and non-profits who spent money to adjust to the HST.

“Yes and it is not only system changes back to the PST but it is also the time, the staff time, you know the retraining that is required and any other changes that might be made with the return to the PST but you know it will be a cost to business.”

The Ministry of Finance says the final transition rules should be released in a couple of weeks.
