Licensed Practical Nurses have voted overwhelmingly to switch unions.
Deb McPherson, president of the BC Nurses Union says it is a big win as between five and seven thousand LPN’s leave the Hospital Employees Union to join the BCNU.
As for what happens next:
“The next few steps as I understand it, and again, I’m not a clear expert on this, would be there has be the certification has to be transferred to us by the LRB and then they would be officially our members. We would then set about to having an election, to elect some representitives from LPN’s from across the province to our governing body.”
The call to start that vote will go out today.
The voting result comes after months of delays in actually counting the votes.
