A victory of sorts for the BC Teachers Federation.
The Labour Relations Board has given teachers the right to walk off the job.
The ruling states teachers can walk off the job for three consecutive days, after giving parents two days notice.
After that — teachers are allowed to strike once a week, with the board reviewing the situation weekly, after March 12th.
On days teachers are in classrooms, they can continue in the “teach-only” phase of their job action.
And when they’re off the job, they won’t be allowed to picket, or block access to schools.
The decision is a partial victory for teachers, who wanted to walk off the job for eight days over a two week period.
The BC School Employers Association was hoping the ruling would allow teachers to strike — at the very most — just once week.
