As Americans living on the Gulf Coast brace for the arrival of tropical storm Issac, a few British Columbians are also battening down the hatches there.
Richmond’s Pat Heslop and his wife are among a group of RV travelers in Florida.
He says they’re riding out the rain and wind in a campsite near Juno Beach.
“The biggest thing is really heavy rain, sheeting rain. It comes down so hard. It’s nothing like we’ve ever seen in Vancouver. We’ve seen some pretty heavy rain, but this comes down so hard and so fast. You just can’t move in it.”
The storm is expected to grown into a hurricane over the next couple of days.
Forecasters say it could come ashore on Wednesday – the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
