Burnaby dog shot during home invasion on the mend

A heroic dog from Burnaby shot in the leg during a home invasion is on the road to recovery.

Doctor Michael King with Canada West Veterinary Specialists says Rumble – an American Stratfordshire terrier – is doing well after complicated surgery.

“Thankfully, it looks like he’s avoided any nerve injury or other compromise to the blood supply or anything, so very optimistic at this point that he should have a fairly good outcome.”

His owners weren’t home last weekend, when thieves broke in and shot and beat him, before fleeing.

Faced with high vet bills, the owners were lucky the surgeons donated their time for Rumble’s operation.

King says a similar procedure could have cost as much as $ 6,000.
