Burnaby school district sues worker over allegedly stolen funds

The Burnaby School District is going to court to try and recover more than $ 100,000 it claims was stolen by a staff member.

The district has filed a notice of civil claim alleging Jodi Fingarsen, a former bookkeeper at Alpha Secondary stole donations, fees, and misdirected checks.

The district is also going after CIBC and Vancity for not recognizing the checks were fraudulent, and endorsements forged.

The notice claims the fraudulent checks amount to more than $ 60,000.

More than $ 5,000 went to golfing, $ 2,100 to a taxi company, and thousands more to athletic companies, and a variety of individuals.

School District 41 is seeking a variety of damages.

A statement of defense has not yet been filed and none of these allegations have been proven in court.
