Cabbie gets jail time and probation

A Surrey cab driver who sexually assaulted 17-year-old female passenger has been sentenced to 18 months in jail.

Wasim Malik, then 47, had picked up the girl and a friend one night in 2009. He drove them to Fort Langley for a party, only to find no party.

The girls didn’t have any money, but Malik said he’d drive them back to Surrey anyway. He dropped off the friend and then took the girl to his home in Fraser Heights.

The girl went inside with him because she had to use the washroom.

Court heard Malik then tried to kiss her and make her give him oral sex saying she owed him for the cab fare.

A struggled ensued, but she managed to get away.

On top of the 18 months behind bars, Malik was also given two years probation.
