The minister responsible for Community Living B.C. will keep her job.
Premier Christy Clark is defending Stephanie Cadieux, as outrage continues to swirl over the latest saga at the troubled organization.
Cadieux announced the end of CLBC’s controversial bonus program last October, but as it turns out, those top ups weren’t phased out until the end of fiscal year – six months later.
Many are asking why wasn’t that explained at the time…
CKNW: “Are you going to fire Minister Cadieux over this?”
CLARK: “Oh no! I mean, she’s been out there talking about the real facts of this ever since this happened… I think the Opposition should probably take a fair amount of responsibility for having tried to mislead people about what was really happening… and I think Stephanie really did her best to make sure that she got the real information out there… and we have!”
The latest twist has several groups – including several clients of CLBC – demanding an external review, and Cadieux’s resignation.
NDP social development critic Nicholas Simons isn’t buying Clark’s argument.
He says voters can see right through the Premier’s rhetoric.
“I don’t mind if she wants to try and cast blame. I think people have obviously made up their minds, and I think they’re right to get the impression that they’ve been tricked by this whole issue.”
Simons adds the ministry seems to “flailing in all directions.”
