With snow finally set to make a strong appearance in Vancouver for the first time this winter, concerns have again been raised about the stability of the new quarter-billion dollar roof at BC Place.
We’ve already heard complaints about water still leaking into the stadium, several months after it officially re-opened.
Now, BC Tourism Minister Pat Bell is dismissing fears the retractable dome is not strong enough to handle heavy snowfall.
He says the BC Place design is specifically designed to handle snowload.
When we asked him if hot air is being pumped into BC Place, he wouldn’t answer directly.
He would only say they are “…..going through the appropriate processes in the event of a snowfall…..”
Stadium operators also say any repairs are under contract, so taxpayers won’t be paying for them.
