Canada’s Mayors want sustainable funding for infrastructure

The leaders of the country’s major cities have met in Saskatoon to talk about ways to do this. As well as press Ottawa to keep the cash flowing so cities can stay competitive.

Surrey’s Dianne Watts says mayors need to co-ordinate on ways to keep up investment in roads, water and transit, “Whether it’s trade, whether it’s the change in regulation for water, which we’re dealing with right now in metro vancouver. Because the change in regulation, the proposed ones from the Federal Governmement, will add another 800-million dollars on. So, we’re going back and having those discussions with the Ministry of Health and talking about you know, is that something that fits every single municipality across the country?”

Federal money under the Building Canada Fund drops in two years.

The Mayors now head into the annual meeting of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
