The General Manager of the Vancouver Canucks has spoken after a 10 year tentative deal was reached by the NHL and the players association this morning.
A shortened season means a different way of getting your team ready for the upcoming national hockey league season, says Mike Gillis.
“It’s different in that you don’t have the luxury of a full season to experiment, we were planning on introducing a number of young players, now I’m not sure how that’s going to work out with a shortened schedule. We’re going to have to see what the conditioning level of our players is. We’re very confident it’s going to be high because of the standards that are set here… Obviously with a 48-game schedule you don’t have any room for experimentation or introduction unless a player is ready to play and ready to contribute.”
One Vancouver Canuck says he’s looking forward to getting back to hockey.
Teams are getting their players back in town in anticipation for the start of the 48 to 50 game season.
Daniel Sedin is excited to get back on the ice.
“It’s exciting every time the season starts because we’re know we’re going to be in a good position to go a long way in the playoffs. We have a good team. It’s going to be a lot of fun to see the guys again, the trainers , everyone.”
The Canucks are expected to open training camp Wednesday.
