A motion passed at the AGM of BC Care Providers could pave the way for safer working conditions.
That’s according to the BC Care Providers Association who claim more than 3,500 injuries were reported last year alone.
Spokesperson David Hurford says the motion calls for the creation of a “safety association” specifically to deal with those who work in seniors care, “We need 50% of the entire long-term care sector to sign on. Our membership employs about 40% of the total in the Province. We will be doing some outreach to some other long-term care providers in the Province over the coming weeks.”
Hurford says the Association would offer specialized training, along with health and safety awareness.
