Charges laid in armed standoff at hotel

Charges have now been laid after a nearly 10-hour armed standoff at Vancouver’s Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel this week.

A major portion of the downtown core was closed off Monday, as police dealt with a man with a handgun cornered to a public foyer of the hotel.

Ranjit Singh Sandhu of Surrey now faces several firearms-related charges, including possession of a prohibited weapon.

The 28-year-old remains in custody until his next court appearance, set for Oct. 19.
