Chilliwack issues flood alert

An evacuation alert has been issued for some Chilliwack residents.

The alert affects people who live on properties that are outside of the city’s dyke system, and the alert means those people should be prepared to leave on short notice.

In a release, the City of Chilliwack says the flows for the Fraser River are projected to increase at Hope with similar water levels at Mission.

The city says the last time the river reached the level anticipated at Mission was in 1972.

Meanwhile, in Prince George, another state of emergency has been declared and evacuation orders have been issued for 18 homes because of rising river levels there.
