Christy Clark comments on Liquor Distribution Branch controversy

Premier Christy Clark has offered her first comments in the wake of NDP claims that the proposed privatization of the Liquor Distribution Branch is being driven by lobbyists with strong Liberal ties.

Thursday it was revealed the government seems to have only decided to privatize the LDB after meeting the Vice-President of Exel Logistics last summer.

Today, Clark is sticking to her talking points on the issue.

Reporter: “Premier, in regards to the Liquor Distribution Branch, where is the business plan for that?”

Clark: “Well what we’ve done is we’re going to get the best deal for taxpayers in this and that’s what we’re focused on, we won’t do it if we can’t get a good deal.”

Reporter: “Did you know Patrick Kinsella was working on behalf of Exel?”

Clark: “That has been raised in the past.”

Reporter: “So you knew that?”

Clark: “It’s been a matter in Question Period.”

Kinsella served as an advisor to Christy Clark during her leadership bid, and co-chaired Liberal election campaigns in 2001 and 2005.

He was also working for BC Rail before it was sold by the government, and faced allegations he also worked for the buyer — CN… allegations which were never proven.
