Vancouver’s bike lanes should stay.
That’s the recommendation from city staff to council.
Staff say the separated bike lanes on Hornby and Dunsmuir streets and the Dunsmuir viaduct as well as connecting streets should remain in place as part of the city’s regular street infrastructure.
A staff report going to council says the bike lanes have had minimal impact on vehicle traffic and there’s been no impact on transit operations.
Charles Gauthier with the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association says many businesses along Hornby Street won’t be happy where parking spots have been eliminiated and customers have dwindled.
“We are hearing more and more stories of businesses that are finding it challenging to operate along the corridor along Hornby Street.”
