Coast Guard closure prompts Park Board motion

More fall-out from the federal government’s decision to close the Kitsilano Coast Guard station…
NPA Park Board commissioner John Coupar plans to table a motion, directing staff to examine what the board can do to respond to the cuts.

“We have a really proffessional group in our organization and I’m sure that they can engage, maybe engage the public, and hopefully come up with some way forward… but this is a major change to the way we’re going to look after our waterfront, I’m sure, in the future.”

Park Board chair Constance Barnes has already expressed her outrage at the move, which will see 12 jobs lost – and service coming from Richmond’s Sea Island.
