Commissioner speaks out on Community Centre plans

An NPA Park Board Commissioner is hoping the third time is the charm as she pushes for more public consultations in a dispute with community centres.

Melissa de Genova says after being ruled out of order twice, her motion asking for a series of public consultations will be debated and voted on, Monday, “Well, if they vote it down, I think that, thats a sad day for Vancouver and a sad day for Vision Vancouver because, unfortunately, they just haven’t been listening to the public.”

This comes as the Kensington Community Centre Association pulls the plug on negotiations with the Park Board for a new joint operating agreement.

A new Mustel Poll has also found almost 70-percent of people in the city are strongly opposed to the Park Board plan to take over community centres.
