Conditions perfect for West Nile

Conditions are perfect here in BC for an outbreak of West Nile Virus.

So far this year there have been no cases of West Nile in the province but that could soon change with the hot, dry weather.

Allen Furnell with the BC Centre for Disease Control says the hotter the weather, the faster mosquitoes develop.

“in BC you have to remember we had a really cool June so it’s sort of set back the mosquitoes a bit but yes it’s starting to develop pretty good here so we’re keeping an eye open in the Okanagan area and in the Fraser Valley for the virus.”

Furnell says to guard against mosquitoes use repellent that has “deet” and get rid of any standing water.
