Construction crane gets wet falling from seawall

Work to connect the seawall around the Vancouver Convention Centre has been stopped after an excavator slid into Coal Harbour.

Craig Lehto with the Convention Centre says there was a worker inside when the excavator ended up in the harbour Wednesday afternoon.

Lehto says no one was hurt in the incident and Worksafe BC is now investigating, “Well it was, uh, our contractor, Vancouver Pile, who is doing that construction work for us. Certainly don’t like to see those type of accidents take place at all. So we are certain they are going through their process to investigate and make sure that they have got all their pieces together before they start work again.”

The excavator was eventually lifted out of the water by a large crane Wednesday evening.
