Convicted gay-basher back behind bars

A convicted gay-basher is going back to jail – this time after robbing a jewelry store.

Michael Kandola will spend the next 20 months behind bars after a Surrey jewelry store heist in June 2009.

He’s also been sentenced to 2 years probation.

He was convicted on robbery charges, as well as using an imitation firearm.

But Kandola is no stranger to a jail cell.

The 23-year old served 17 months for attacking Jordan Smith in downtown Vancouver in 2008.

Smith was walking hand-in-hand with another man.

Even though Kandola admitted to uttering homophobic insults, he insists it wasn’t a hate crime.
