COPE member upset with proposal for towers beside Rogers Arena

A proposal to build three residential towers beside Rogers Arena is upsetting social housing proponents.

David Chudnovsky with the COPE says the Aquilini Investment Group’s proposal is counterproductive in the struggle to provide social housing.

“This proposal does nothing to deal with that. It does nothing to deal with poor people, it does nothing to deal with working class and middle class families’ needs, it does nothing to deal with seniors’ needs, it does nothing to deal with the needs of young people.”

The average rental cost of the 614 units is $ 2,000 a month.

The public hearing on the proposal from the Aquilini’s, who also own the Canucks, has been pushed back to Thursday.
